Biophysics program events
Seminars
In addition to the Biophysics program journal club and Biophysical Evenings, there a wide range of local seminars available to students. The Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences keeps a master calendar of seminars and other events. Alternatively, you can visit some of the individual seminar calendars linked below:
- Biochemistry and Molecular Biophysics
- Biomedical engineering
- Cardiac Bioelectricity and Arrhythmia Center
- Cell Biology
- Center for Computational Biology
- Chemistry
- Physics
- Genetics
There are also a number of informal discussion groups in which students can participate.
Thesis defenses
Upcoming thesis defenses related to the Biophysics Program are posted here.
Journal club
The Biochemistry and Biophysics Graduate Seminar Series is a journal club in which all current biophysics students present their research. First year students attend only; second year students are encouraged to present a seminar on their chosen preliminary exam topic; and all other students present a formal research seminar on their work. All students are required to attend, and program faculty are strongly encouraged to be part of the audience.
The current Graduate Seminar Series schedule is available here.
Biophysical evenings
Biophysical Evenings occur one Tuesday each month during the fall and winter. Local investigators present original research talks in areas of interest to the biophysical community at Wash U. They are held from 5:30-6:30 PM and are followed by pizza and beverages.
The current Biophysical Evening schedule is available here.
Biophysics/biochemistry retreat
The retreat is held each year in the fall. Pictures from past retreats are available at the program photo gallery.
The 15th Annual Fall Retreat for the Division of Biology and Biomedical Sciences Programs in Biochemistry, Chemical Biology, and Molecular Biophysics will be held from the afternoon of Friday, October 10th through Saturday, October 11th at the Cedar Creek Conference Center.
